Although nearly all iPhone 5 rumors seem to agree on one thing (the presence of 4G LTE), there’s still a bit of a disagreement on what the new iPhone will look like. In yesterday’s article we showed you an iPhone 5 design concept that we thought gave a good look at what the new iPhone may look like—but as we pointed out, this may not happen. And according to a new report, the iPhone won’t get the tear drop or curved shapes we’ve reported on in the past.
The report, based on rumors and other info, and released by iLounge this week, says that the new iPhone will indeed have a 4 inch display. That news shouldn’t come as a surprise, as we’ve heard talk of this for the past several months now. What’s interesting about the display is the aspect ratio as it’s reportedly going to be 16 x 9, which is the same as HDTVs. That means the iPhone 5 display should be even better than that which is found on the iPhone 4S.
As for the shape of the device—it’s reportedly going to have a flat back made of some sort of metal material. Most likely that material will be Liquidmetal…though, again, that’s definitely not a given at this point. It just looks pretty likely given what we’ve been hearing.
One other thing mentioned by the report is that the new iPhone will be getting a new dock connector. Now, we’ve of course reported on the new iPhone getting a micro dock connector, but it hasn’t been mentioned much in recent reports. With this new report mentioning it (though they didn’t say if it’ll be the micro dock connector or something similar instead), it would seem that Apple is definitely planning on re-working the dock connector for the new iPhone.
Another thing talked about in the report is the actual size of the ne w iPhone. The iPhone 5 will apparently have dimensions of 125mm by 58.5mm by 7.4mm. That’s slightly taller than the iPhone 4S, but also slimmer than the device.
So, readers, what do you think of this report? Does this sound like an iPhone 5 you would buy?
