iPhone 5 May Look a Little Like This

February 29, 2012

As the iPhone 5 release date draws near, it’s likely we’ll be seeing a lot of images of what the iPhone 5 will potentially look like. Heck, we just saw one a few weeks back that showed the iPhone 5 as being the biggest iPhone yet. However, this newest iPhone 5 mock-up may be the most interesting one yet because it’s nothing like the iPhones we’ve seen in the past. While we don’t know for sure that the iPhone 5 will look like the image we are about to show you, it’s still worth looking at a little closer.

iPhone 5 Design By Italian Designer

When Apple is getting ready to release a new iPhone, it’s not unheard of for potential iPhone designs to hit the Internet. This latest one comes courtesy of Federico Ciccarese. Ciccarese based his design off of the various rumors that have been flooding the Internet over the past few months. Ciccarese managed to incorporate several of the rumored specifications into his iPhone 5 mock-up, including the rumored curve back, headphone jack on the side of the device, and larger 4-inch screen. Not only that, but Ciccarese’s design boasts a lit up Apple logo.

A Closer Look Into the iPhone 5 Mock-up

This new iPhone 5 image depicts the device as being very curvy. That lines up with all of the rumors that the iPhone 5 would have more of a round shape. The advantage to this design is obviously that the phone will be easier to hold–or at least much easier than the current rectangular-shaped iPhone 4S.

iPhone 5

Ciccarese’s image also shows a change in the location of both the front and rear cameras on the iPhone 5. The iPhone 5 rear camera is in the middle of the device, while the front camera has been moved from the left side of the phone (as it was on the 4S) to the right side.

To accommodate the new, curvy design, the volume and silencer buttons have been moved down and are closer together than they were on the iPhone 4S. Interestingly enough, the headphone jack is now on the right side of the device.

But perhaps the most interesting aspect of the device is the lit up Apple logo on the back. It’s assumed that the logo will light up when the device is in use–however, Ciccarese didn’t make this clear in his design. The idea of an iPhone 5 with an Apple logo that lights up is very intriguing and exciting.

What the Design Doesn’t Show Us

As nice as Ciccarese’s design is, it doesn’t show us a few of the things that people are most wanting to see in the iPhone 5: 4G LTE capability and additional physical switches. In Ciccarese’s pictures, we see the familiar (and perhaps loathed) 3G symbol and we only see one physical switch: the silencer. Now, as we’ve noted, Ciccarese’s design is only a mock-up, so it’s possible that the actual iPhone 5 may look nothing like it and may come with the 4G and physical switches we’ve been wishing for.

Still, we’d be very happy to see an iPhone 5 that incorporates some of Ciccarese’s beautiful design as well as the other design features Apple iPhone users have been asking for.

What Do You Think?

Do you like Ciccarese’s design or feel that it is too curvy? What would your ideal iPhone 5 look like? Leave a comment below and give us your opinion.

Awsome design really sets it apart from the previous models. Furthermore its about time to graduate to a more contempary design as well, keep up the great work Apple………..

Robert Lee (iphone 3g owner)
Perhaps its time for me to upgrade when this piece of art arrives!

It looks like a maxi-pad… please no.

this phone is sexy. i dont say that about phones ever. i love this design and wouldnt mind if its 3g or 4g. i hated the look of the iphone4s. i liked all the features but this one will sweep every man and women off their feet. best design yet and that is really saying something!

I hope it's not going to be curvy like that. My dream an an iphone is for it to be skinny and flat, like the 3g ipod touch. i dig the light up logo though.

I hope we dont need to carry computer or lap top for small work for 75 % computer or camra

4G LTE is critical for me. If iPhone 5 does not adpot 4G LTE, I will not get it.

Linda March 1, 2012 at 3:27 pm

I hope not!

Ken March 1, 2012 at 3:31 pm

I really hope it doesn't only come in white… I want the 5 but that would be a dealbreaker. Also, "exciting" is a pretty lofty way to describe a light-up logo

This reminds me of the magic mouse apple has. And kinda of a maxi pad. Would this design be able to hold all the new upgrades rumours of the iPhone 5? It doesn't look like it. Very sleek and neat though, which is of course apple's speciality.

Wow. Apple you have really messed up this time. iPhone 5 should look just like the iPhone 4s but maybe skinnier. Don’t care much about 4g lte. They don’t even need a new iPhone, the 4s is perfect as is. All other smartphones are awful compared to iPhone.

nick March 7, 2012 at 8:09 am

this isint the iphone 5′s offical design! its a design built by some random designer on the internet and there is no proof what so ever that this is what it will look like. i do agree with you on the fact that all phones are awful compared to the iphone though.

I hope you guys realize that they even said this is a mock up and is not an image that came from apple. This is not a definite design, it's just the imagination of a fan.

Annie March 2, 2012 at 12:07 pm

Is this real or just a design? Either way, its nice but it looks hard to get a good grip on it.

Reggiesub March 2, 2012 at 2:19 pm

Liking the new design a lot, and completely Apple-esque, sleek and stylish! Never liked 4 n 4s, precisely for this reason, too chunky!

Eazy March 2, 2012 at 4:59 pm

Like the curvy!

Horrible ill wait for the galaxy s3 that's going to be much better

Guest1 March 3, 2012 at 4:17 am

Looks like the magic mouse. -.-"

CptnWillMo March 3, 2012 at 5:32 am

I think if the logo lights up, it should light up when a message or notification appears

Johndel March 3, 2012 at 7:24 am

Whats the point of a backlit logo if everyone is just going to have a case over it anyways?

Frank March 3, 2012 at 12:40 pm

It looks feminine. Too similar to the old AT&T Princess phone.

I prefer iPhone 5 to look cool like iPhone 4 but a bigger screen and with 4G.

JDD March 3, 2012 at 7:28 pm

Keep the original iphone shape. That just looks like a microsoft arc mouse ==

deepster March 3, 2012 at 10:25 pm

Not a fan of curvy at all. Would be impossible to set down on a table and use, like I often do in a coffee shop or bar. The 4 has the right idea.

@ChalkTalkTweet March 5, 2012 at 5:41 pm

I'm not too sure about this particular design, but I am certain that the 4/4S design needs to change. My opinion is that we need a design that will fit nicely in a pocket. The 4/4S is too flat, thick and heavy. My old 3GS was more convenient to carry since it had a curved side making it more comfortable. Regarding cases, I've tried all kinds and after experimenting, it turns out the best portable option for me is… simply in my pocket!

anonoymous March 5, 2012 at 11:23 pm

I like the looks of the iphone 4 and 4s way better than the design above. But it would be nice if it was thinner. If the iphone 5 looks like that I won't buy it.

Anon March 6, 2012 at 9:55 pm

Hahahaha someone was like, "Let's take the mighty mouse and turn it into a cell phone!" Yuck! That is ugly! And really lazy, sorry to Apple for whoever discredited them to think they were really lazy…

rub March 8, 2012 at 6:25 am

doesnt look professional when its curvy and it looks like a standind Apple Mouse

Red March 7, 2012 at 9:30 am

I think it looks great!

People that want the phone to look the same as the previous 4 versions, need to get out a little more.

Apple are the leaders in this technology, and by those standards alone need to mix thigs up to keep them fresh. Staying with the same shape and design is boring, may as well go back to a PC too!

Watermelonadrea March 8, 2012 at 5:47 pm

I hope it's not going to be curry; it looks horrible

ab123456 March 13, 2012 at 3:56 pm

looks kinda girly. Would probably wobble around while lying on the table.

KayKay March 14, 2012 at 5:59 am

ooooooooo! i like it a lot. the reason being because of the more modern look about it. i know it might be hard to set it down on a table but they have other things that will help with that i'm sure. they should also have the phone come in different colors instead of having the same black and white and having to pay extra to customize it yourself. but the sleek design is really neat and very sexy. i would really look forward to purchasing this myself. A lot of people might disagree but come on people this is very different and unique. im ready for something different!

iKare March 15, 2012 at 11:43 am

I honestly hope the phone doesn't light up!! This brings too much attention to the fact you have an iPhone & you may become a target for a theft! Don't do it Apple.. You may put the user in danger! Seriously! I'm from Chicago & there is a rash of crime with folks snatching or taking iPhones at gunpoint!

Anon March 18, 2012 at 4:38 am

YES! That's one nice looking phone, it's different from the previous ones. I think it looks great, and if they could add 4G and a better battery life to it then i would love it a hundred times more
