iPhone 5 Leaked Images: Revisited

April 4, 2012

In early February, iPhone5Latest.com was the first to break the story of possibly leaked iPhone 5 images from Apple’s upcoming 2012 World Wide Developers Conference. We received the images from a source whose team focuses on finding out information about upcoming Apple products. Although we weren’t sure at the time if all of the reported features would actually pan out, we did feel it was a good idea to report on the images as they provided the best look at what the new iPhone 5 might look like. Now, two months later, we’ve found out a lot of additional information about iPhone 5 features. In today’s article, we’ll be comparing the leaked images to what we know now about the upcoming iPhone 5.

iPhone 5 Leaked Images Show 4G

iPhone 5

When looking at the image above, one of the first things that’s obvious is the presence of a 4G icon. The iPhone 5 has been rumored to have 4G LTE capabilities for several months now, and up til recently, we weren’t really sure if this would actually happen. Then, of course, the new 4G LTE iPad came around. Now it’s all but certain that the new iPhone 5 will be the first iPhone to come with the coveted 4G LTE technology. That means a significantly faster iPhone 5 browsing and data usage experience for all. And it’s one thing that our leaked image above seems to have accurately predicted.

iPhone 5 Bigger Display Is Now More Likely

Here’s another thing that is pretty evident from looking at the image above and the one below: the overall size of the iPhone 5. While there were initially some questions about whether or not the iPhone 5 would be as big as it appears to be in this picture, it’s now looking like it will be. If recent reports of a 4.6 inch display are to be believed, the iPhone 5 pictured above is a very accurate representation of such an iPhone.

iPhone 5

As you can see from the image, the iPhone 5 display appears to be at least a half inch bigger than the iPhone 4S display. It also appears to be a little bit wider of a display, too. We’d venture to guess that given the rumors we’ve been hearing–and the images here–the new iPhone 5 display will be at least 4.3 inches, if not 4.6 inches as reported.

iPhone 5 Display

The iPhone’s display hasn’t really changed all that significantly over the years. Yes, in recent years the iPhone has become a little bit more rectangular in shape, but overall the iPhone 4S looks a lot like the original iPhone, with the exception of one thing: the roundedness of the original iPhone. Based on our leaked iPhone 5 images above, as well as what we’ve been hearing in the rumor mill as of late, we think that the new iPhone 5 will return to the original iPhone’s roots with a more rounded look. This would make a lot of sense as many iPhone 4 and 4S owners who owned an older iPhone have reported missing the round shape. We expect Apple to implement the new iPhone 5 round shape in such a way that the device is still slim, yet fits better in the palm of the hand.

What Do You Think?

Do you prefer a boxier or rounder iPhone 5? What size do you want the iPhone 5 to be? Is the iPhone 5 having 4G LTE a big deal to you? Leave us a comment below and make your opinion heard.

Am I the only one to notice that the wallpaper of this "leaked" iPhone image is the new iPad's wallpaper? (And this picture came out before the new iPad was announced)
This fact is making the chances that this may be real a little higher.

Hi,

You're definitely not the only one. :) Our source has been generally reliable in the past, so we think he's gotten it right here. Based on what these images show, it's going to be a very interesting few months leading up to the release of the iPhone 5, in terms of what features the device ultimately has.

Another thing is the date that is on the iPhone. It says Thursday, July 28, so could this be an indicator as to when the announcement will be? The 28th of July is not a Thursday, but June 28th is, so is this at all possible? Or is it just to throw us off like many other things in the past?

July 28 was a Thursday in 2011 :) but I am hoping for June!

Hi Andy,

Good catch! It's possible that the Apple worker who possibly created this slideshow image might have gotten lazy. ;)

Still no microSD slot or replaceable battery ? Will phone still be enslaved to iTunes ? Proprietary Device still locked up tight ?
Still too many negatives for me to purchase over the new Nexus.
Or may still just keep my rooted gingerbread.

Hi Robert,

As far as we know, Apple isn't planning on microSD or a easily replaceable battery for the iPhone 5, but it's always possible. Currently the device can be synced/updated over the air, so you don't have to connect it to iTunes via USB. With regards to the other limitations, jailbreaking/unlocking the iPhone 5 will no doubt be possible and may solve some of these issues.

I hope the new iphone can play music through blue tooth, has a better camera, is able to add ringtones and sounds for mail, is able to change carriers (I travel a lot and hate roaming charges), and is able to play flash items on the internet. The current limitations are making me start to look at other options. I have had the 2, 3s, 4, and 4s. If they don't change I don't think I'll get the 5.

They better make some impressive changes and soon. Droids are kicking their butts. My daughter just got the Droid Razor and it is better than my iPhone in MANY ways. If they don't put something out that makes the inconvenience of dealing with Apple and having to use iTunes (which I hate), I'm going Droid!

Already moved to droid HTC One. So much better. Grandma uses the outdated iPhone. Jailbreaking/unlocking to solve shortcomings is not an acceptable means to get a smart phone to be smart.

I am hoping for at least 4.5 inch or bigger sharper retina screen…present screen is too small now.

Hi Bing,

Thanks for commenting! I agree that the current screen is too small. I believe Apple will listen to the customers and make the screen bigger.

I am a die hard Iphone fan and am definitely looking forward to the new Iphone 5 after seeing the above images. I just hope it does have a bigger screen and more bluetooth capabalities. This is needed when you need to transfer stuff from other phones like Nokias or Blackberrys to the Iphone. I am from India so hope Apple now does give some weightage to Indians by incorporating Indian accents in Siri in Iphone 5. There are a lot of Iphone users in India.

Bigger screen a must, as well as a rounded body. All plus in my mind.
